Nefazodone, derived from phenylpiperazine, is used as an antidepressant agent related with trazodone structurally. It is not a tri or tetra cyclic compounds which most antidepressants are specified with structurally. The hydrochloride salt of nefazodone is a white to off-white crystalline powder; melting point 186 - 188 C; slightly soluble in water; soluble in chloroform and propylene glycol; administered orally. The chemical designation is 2-[3-[4-(3-chlorophenyl)-1-piperazinyl]propyl]- 5-ethyl-2,4-dihydro-4-(2-phenoxyethyl)-3H-1,2,4- triazol-3-one monohydrochloride. | ||
